The stunningly beautiful Salutorget restaurant in the heart of historic Helsinki offers the perfect setting for a wonderful dining experience.
Have a seat at a beautifully set table, sit back and let our attentive staff take care of your dining experience. Visit the bar for quick snacks and tasty cocktails. In the summertime you may want to spend hours on our terrace just watching the lush Esplanadi park bustle, while sipping on that rosé.
Escaping the mundane for centuries
Merchant Peter Brofeldt made his mark in Helsinki by building the stone house, in the shelter of which we are now sitting. The house was built in the 1830s in the Sarvikuono (eng. rhino) block next to Esplanadi park, where its ground floor served as Brofeldt's general store for its first years.
The two-story building made it possible for the merchant himself to inhabit the second floor. Soon after the opening of Brofeldt's store, there was a need for a third floor, so that the sales assistants of the successful store could have their own rooms.
In 1841, merchant Aleksej Kudrakoff, who moved from St. Petersburg to Helsinki, bought the entire Brofeldt house in order to establish his own "salubod" on the site. The selection of Kudrakoff's shop made the luxury products of the time widely available to the people of Helsinki, such as fresh fish, caviar, citrus fruits and Crimean apples.
A former bank hall gets a new life
The view around you got its current shape in 1912-14 when the architectural firm Valter Jung and Emil Fabritius designed a new one-story bank hall for the building. The eye-catcher of the banking hall, the stained glass work "Money tree"; designed by architect Jung, which decorates the back wall, was placed in the hall in 1974. The work was produced in the famous S. Wuorio decorative painting factory as early as 1904.
Salutorget has been offering moments above everyday life in the Brofeldt house since 2009, when the bank hall was renovated into a restaurant. In our opinion, fresh fish and caviar are still luxury products with which we want to delight our guests today.
